Make your own popsicles

There are so many great things about summer — long sunny days, swimming and popsicles!

While I know this idea has been around for a while, we finally tried making our own popsicles. This was great, because it gave us a way to cut down on packaging as well as the amount of sugar in store-bought popsicles. It’s very easy, green, and economical to make your own popsicles.

We bought a watermelon that was way too big for our small family to consume before it went bad. So we pureed the watermelon (it was seedless) in a blender with some honey and lemon juice.

We then poured the mixture into a small popsicle mold that we bought at Target.homemade_popsicles

These popsicles are the perfect size for a toddler, and there’s no packaging. Once he’s finished with a popsicle, we wash the stick and pour more juice into the mold.

If you don’t have a mold, you can also pour your fruit puree into an ice tray. Let it set up a bit in the freezer, and then put toothpicks in it. Or simply use the cubes as fruity ice in a glass of water.
