A few weeks ago, I got an email asking for participation in a study about green mom bloggers. This week they released the results of this study.
The Social Studies Group conducted the survey, which was a follow-up to one done at the beginning of the year — I did not participate in the first study.
Some of the findings of the follow-up study are very interesting. Green moms are “going green” more for their family than for the environment. That is true for me… at least it was initially. I started looking into green alternatives after the birth of our first son — wanting to keep chemicals away from him. It’s morphed, and while I still want to keep our family green, I also want to do more for the environment.
The paper discusses the growing green mom movement and it’s use of the internet to spread awareness. “The level of dialogue in this community is significant as ideas spread rapidly from one person to the entire community across multiple channels and common opinions are formed andcemented relating to products, behaviors, and general beliefs.”
Not only do green moms blog, they also use Facebook, Twitter, and comment on other websites and blogs.
One interesting finding is that while green moms are great at discussing green behaviors and lifestyles on their blogs, they are not as likely to discuss environmental politics or activism.
The results are very interesting. Any thoughts on the findings? What was your drive to start living a greener lifestyle?
