We were very excited about our cloth diapering plans, though a bit worried about the number of cloth diapers I had managed to amass.
We’ve encountered a few obstacles, though nothing I’m sure we can’t overcome.
The Wonder Wash I ordered, came in. It’s manually operated, so no electricity used to clean the diapers. And it’s easy, the most time-consuming task is the drying of the diapers.
And the southeastern part of the U.S. has seemed a lot more like Seattle recently with the constant rainy weather. The BumGenius diapers, which are looking to be my favorites, take the least amount of time to dry. But they still take at least a day. This isn’t good if I put off washing.
But the drying of diapers hasn’t been our biggest obstacle — my son’s belly button has.
We decided to go with the one-size-fits-all diapers. And although they’re soft, they rubbed his little umbilical cord stump and made it bloody. So, until his belly button has completely healed, we have decided to hold off on the cloth diapers, and instead go with the smallest size of disposable diapers. I’m thinking it will only take about a week before we’re ready to get back into the swing of things with cloth diapers.
We did have a few small diapers, but they required diaper covers. And those seemed worse on his belly button than the all-in-ones.
I had friends who had issues with cloth diapers causing rashes, but our son didn’t seem to have a problem with that at all.
If anyone has any advice on speeding up the air-drying process in humid conditions, or ways to keep the belly button from getting irritated by bigger cloth diapers, please let me know!
