I stumbled upon some new green innovations the other day, and I’m not quite sure what to think about them.
It’s a washer and dryer system called the Wonder Wash and the Spin Dryer. They are both small enough to fit on your countertop.
It’s not just the size that makes them green. The Laundry Alternative, the company that makes these appliances, says the Wonder Wash uses 90 percent less water and detergent than conventional washing machines.
The Wonder Wash can handle loads of up to 5 pounds, while the Spin Dryer’s maximum capacity is a little over 2 pounds.
Both are supposed to be very fast, and they cost a lot less than regular size washers and dryers.
And the Wonder Wash is also ideal for delicates.
They sound really great, don’t they? The size makes me wonder if they are practical for families. My toddler still goes through lots of clothes, towels, etc., and I can’t imagine loading and re-loading a washing machine all day.
But, then I read the bit about the Wonder Wash being ideal for people washing small frequent loads, like cloth diapers. We are expecting our second child, and want to use cloth diapers this go round. I read pieces with people claiming that you do more harm with cloth diapers, because for many loads you have to re-wash several times in hot water. (I don’t agree with these claims, and plan to do a post about cloth versus disposables later.)
This washing machine might be the perfect answer to people facing that dilemma. Have any of you tried these machines? What do you think of them? Any recommendations?
