E-filing can be a very easy and environmentally friendly way to file your income taxes this year. In the past couple of weeks, I’ve written about the environmental impact of paying bills online and Direct Deposit.
Filing your taxes online can be just as easy, and makes just as big of an impact on the environment.
According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) 90 million people used the e-file program to file their taxes in 2008.
Those people saved paper and fuels used to deliver the income tax returns.
The IRS assures that taxes filed online are safe and secure. There are other benefits, if you file your taxes online then you can file them at any time on any day. And if you opt for Direct Deposit (saving even MORE paper and fuel) then you could get your refund in 10 days.
Need another reason to file online? This year the IRS partnered with private companies so that people who made less than $56,000 in 2008 can be eligible to file their taxes for free.
